One day after Estonia 's Independance Day, it's time to talk a little bit about the nearly 300 amendments of legal acts entered into force in Estonia on 1 January 2015.
Among the most important changes, over 200 amendments introduced changes to the Penal Code.
The aim of the amendments is to decrease the number of punishable acts and decrease over- criminalisation.
One of the amendments involves raising the limit between criminal offences and misdemeanors against property from €64 to €200.
Thus, from the new year, a theft will be considered a criminal offence only if the value of the stolen item exceeds €200.
In relation to the review of the Penal Code, amendments are also made to other laws.
For example, the sanctions rate for the violation of the prohibition on using dishonest trading techniques as established in the Consumer Protection Act will increase from €3,200 to €10,000
